Longest-serving governor of Texas

Born into a family of cotton farmers in West Texas, he was one of the first in his family to go to college. He earned a degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and a Yell Leader.

In 1972, he was part of the U.S. Air Force and flew C-130 tactical airlift aircraft in Europe and the Middle East.

Rick Perry was the longest-serving governor of Texas (2000–15) and later was secretary of energy (2017–19) in the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
